“The Tortoise”

Inspired by Joshua Tree National Park

I was hiking alone in the desert and thinking about how you had to take it one step at a time and really think about water.

There is also an orchestral version of this song that was created by Michael Oliva (The Harlequins).

Lyrics

“The Tortoise”
Written by Kendall Bruns

[Chorus]

Live like the tortoise
Carry your own home
Live past forever
Never feel alone

[Verse 1]

Drink lots of water
Get it anytime you can
Avoid dehydration
Always have a water plan

[Chorus]

Live like the tortoise
Carry your own home
Live past forever
Never feel alone

[Verse 2]

You must pace yourself wisely
Move steady but slow
You might not see the progress
But it’s the best way to grow

[Bridge 1]

When the sun goes down
And the sky turns orange and purple
And blue and pink and green

I know even though it’s cold
It’ll come back and shine for me

[Verse 3]

The next day it rises
With a glorious glow
I knew it would come
It didn’t promise but I know

[Verse 4]

It’ll be there every morning
Sure as it sets every night
So I lay my head down
And I close my eyes tight

[Bridge 2]

Try to have some pleasant dreams
That I know you deserve
And tomorrow you’ll use
The energy you conserve

[Verse 5]

Don’t waste your night with worry
Get some shut eye instead
You must protect precious sleep time
Or you’ll feel like your dead

[Chorus]

Live like the tortoise
Carry your own home
Live past forever
Never feel alone

[Verse 6]

Water, sleep and shelter
Kindness towards yourself and others can
Enrich a life that’s lived slowly
With this tortoise living plan
